石井 智 / Satoshi Ishii
Creative Director
Satoshi Ishii has remained at the forefront of fashion for more than 35 years, with experience that includes work at a general trading company and postings in Paris and Milan. Grounded in a deep knowledge of natural materials, especially linen, he organizes product concepts, connects them to production backgrounds, balances them with market realities, and builds the path by which they are communicated.
His starting point goes back to his encounter with antique linen in Europe in his twenties. In 2006, he launched Vlas Blomme and began working to introduce the value and possibilities of linen to the Japanese market at a time when the material was not yet widely understood. By traveling to Kortrijk, Belgium, and building relationships with spinners and weaving mills, he helped create a foundation that linked materials, makers, and market.
His work lies in seeing planning, production, distribution, and retail as one continuous whole. Designers, makers, and buyers each operate under different conditions and perspectives. Working across these differences, he brings concepts into feasible form and aligns material, technique, speed, sustainability, and expression in ways that allow a brand’s distinctiveness and business viability to coexist.
In recent years, he has expanded this experience into consulting for brand creation, restructuring, material strategy, production planning, and business development with an international perspective. Working across production backgrounds in Europe, Japan, and India, he helps turn brands into practical realities across different cultures and conditions.
Origin of the Name
“LEA” comes from “lea,” a traditional unit used to indicate the fineness of linen yarn.
“lea 80” refers to the yarn count of the fabric that first drew Satoshi Ishii deeply toward the beauty of linen.
The name LEA80 reflects a commitment to keep that point of origin alive, to value both material and human knowledge, and to shape the future of brands with care and precision.
